Milton Lesser: "The Man Who Made His Dreams Come True," "So You Want to be President," & "He Fired His Boss"

The first issue of Dream World, the magazine edited by Paul W. Fairman that promised "A New Kind of Fiction" and "Stories of Incredible Powers," printed two stories by Milton Lesser; we read one of them recently, skipping the one that looked like it was about the gorillas of the gridiron. The second issue of Dream World boasts three stories by Lesser, each under a different pen name. Let's flip through this second issue of this odd 1957 magazine, apparently designed to appeal to readers' fascination with sex, that only endured for three issues, and then read Lesser's three contributions. This May '57 ish of Dream World has an editorial by Fairman in which he argues that the original purpose of fiction was to provide entertainment and escape, and tells us that Dream World's stories represent a return to that role, a role which has been neglected in our modern world in which fiction is supposed to be realistic and educational and prepare people for "the grim struggle ahead" that is…
