Writing Wednesday: The Quarterly Journal in Regional Perspective

I got a bit of writing done over the last couple of weeks and I’m starting to feel a bit of momentum. This week, I finished a substantial draft of my contribution to the Edinburgh Companion to the Regional Magazine: “Midwestern Modernism and the Regional Magazine: The First 23 volumes of North Dakota Quarterly (1910-1933)” It’s the first paper that I’ve tried to write about NDQ for a publication other than NDQ. I think I did a reasonable job narrating the history of the Quarterly and connecting it to various other regional publications. I probably stumbled a bit when it comes to connecting the content of the magazine to larger intellectual trends and I probably could strengthen the regional through line better. I think, in general, it’s a decent paper and it will definitely benefit from some feedback from editors and a bit more marination.
