Back in March, I wrote about Jensen Huang wanting $1 trillion while demoing features you'll need $10,000 to run. The short version: Nvidia unveiled DLSS 5 at GTC, running on a rig with two RTX 5090s, showed off a Resident Evil Requiem demo that immediately got dragged for "yassifying" Grace Ashcroft, and told everyone who was skeptical that they were "completely wrong." DLSS 5 officially launches September 3rd alongside NBA 2K27, and I have to hand it to Nvidia: they actually hit that mark. According to their own post, since the initial announcement in March, they've gone from requiring dual RTX 5090s to running on a single GPU, with a claimed 5x performance improvement in six months. That's not nothing, and it's a real engineering accomplishment. Good news, everyone: it only needs one GPU now. Bad news, everyone: that GPU costs $800–1,200…
