August. The month when training has to fit into the vacation schedule. When recovery is good (no work, a lot of sleep) and bad (a lot of time on your feet) at the same time.I’ve noticed over the past years that I struggle with training during summer vacation. Can I find a track or at least a flat piece of road for the workout? Do I run before any sightseeing activities, which delays or shortens the day, or do I run in the evening, after having been active during the day? For this year’s vacation in France, my personal highlight was how accessible running tracks are to the public there. Three different cities, and every time I asked, “Is it allowed to run on the track?” I got a confused look and “Of course! Everyone is welcome.” for an answer. Compare this to Munich, where tracks are usually fenced off, and if they are open, you run, fearing getting scolded at and thrown off the venue.
