For some stores, a sale is the status quo. They advertise their prices as being 40 to 60% off the whole year. So how do you compete with that? When a sale goes on year round, people don’t get excited about it anymore. A new campaign needs to happen. It’s called a “Sale on sale.” Take an additional 25% off, because the original sales prices weren’t enough to get people excited anymore. And a funny guess about the name: if you couldn’t think of a more interesting or original way to get people excited, you’re probably not going to invent a new name for this thing. So, “Sale on sale.” This is fine, and I’m sure it’ll work. Many people, including me, love a good deal. In another decade, a “sale on sale” won’t be enough anymore. You know what will work, though? “Sale on sale on sale.” Or instead of constantly competing on price, you can do the hard work of standing for a set of values, communicating with personality, and making high quality products that people want.
