Senior City of London councillor Tim Levene AKA Hon Timothy Charles Levene is a nepo baby – someone who has had success they don’t deserve thrust upon them thanks to their family background. Levene and his father Peter Levene AKA Baron Levene of Portsoken, went to the same school and university (as did older brother/son John), and both Tim & Peter have been City of London aldermen (senior councillors). Junior is about to become a City of London sheriff like his old man, a post all Lord Mayors of London must have held. Tim Levene’s dad was Lord Mayor of London in 1998-1999. Before taking up the office of Sheriff, presumably as a precursor to following in daddy’s footsteps and becoming Lord Mayor, Junior decided to stand for re-election in his Bridge ward. Levene made it difficult for any rival candidate to stand against him by abusing the archaic rules on alder elections that allow incumbents to fix the date of their own re-election within a six year period.
