If you have ever wondered what popular music sounds like in Kyrgyzstan, then look no further. This track is called КЫРГЫЗСТАН, which is written in Kyrgyz and means – yes, you’ve guessed it – Kyrgyzstan. It is sung by Amirchik, the stage name of Amirkhan Batabayev, a singer from the country who became immensely popular through TikTok and later with his hit song "Эта любовь" ("This Love"). He was born near Bishkek in 2003 and has gained fans across Central Asia and parts of Southeast Asia. Perhaps it’s now his turn to appeal to countries much further west of Kyrgyzstan too. The song was written to celebrate Kyrgyzstan’s Independence Day (31 August) as well as its people, national pride, and the artist's personal connection to the place where he grew up.
