Review: Sallow Moth – Hydrophilous Brood

Review by Sandre the Giant Released: 24th July 2026 Progressive death metallers Sallow Moth have created a fascinating science fiction world for their twisted and dissonant death metal over the past few years, with last year’s ‘Mossbane Lantern’ being particularly effective at creating something very evocative. Enter ‘Hydrophilous Brood’, set in an alternate dimension where new hybrid organisms are born after passing through the mossbane lantern of the last record, retaining a thematic conduit from last year. It’s a fascinating concept for a death metal record, and it is out now through Willowtip Records. Opener ‘Nebulous Appendages of Vacillant Seafoam’ is utterly brutal, a steamroller of classic death metal riffs and an abyssal roar from Garry Brents. Sallow Moth are guttural and dense to the point of oppression, but the guitar work is surprisingly technical and the whole thing reeks of classic prog death from the early 90s.
