With Casey visiting family I’m left to my own devices and a backlog of movies he needn’t suffer through. First on the list was Life Itself, a sprawling melodrama from the writer behind Cars, Crazy, Stupid, Love and This Is Us. It’s messy, but the star studded cast tries to honor the intention of it all quite earnestly. It might’ve been rough to stomach in an uninterrupted sitting, but at the end of the day I appreciated the sum of the parts. I checked Letterboxd afterward and my take might be way too glowing, but the top reviews gave a good chuckle.
