Times Square Fun – New York, New York I made it to Times Square, and it was as energetic as expected. However, it hasn’t always been this way. When I was growing up in New York City in the 1970s and early 1980s, Times Square was seedy, with wall-to-wall X-rated movie theaters. I rarely went there during the day, except for the occasional visit to a big video arcade. I wouldn’t have considered going there at night. Times Square has been cleaned up for decades and now attracts throngs of tourists from around the world. It’s a remarkable transformation that warms my heart. I saw several of these platforms with a camera and spinning light that create dynamic videos of people surrounded by the cityscape. I captured one here where the visitors looked especially festive. I shot only a couple of frames but lucked out on my second try with these fantastic expressions. I couldn’t have scripted it any better.
