A flight from Toronto would take less than a couple of hours in the air. It was possible, in theory, to make a simple day trip. As I did the math a little more, I remembered that it took at least an hour to get into Manhattan from any of the airports. That would leave me with just a few hours to spend in the city before I needed to leave for my return flight, if I wanted to get home at a reasonable hour. Plus, the day before I’d be conserving energy, and the day after I’d be recovering. Maybe a better idea would be to wait until I could stay a night or two; that would be simple enough. Eight years ago, three friends and I decided to attend a music festival in Auckland, New Zealand. I flew into Sydney from Toronto, which took around 26 hours, including a connection in Shanghai for a couple of hours.
