Vancouver Snapshots II

I recently spent another week in the Vancouver area, as one does when one used to live there, and family and friends are there. As usual, I visited a mix of the familiar, the changed, and the new. Click to view a larger version of any photo. London Wharf, on the Fraser River, in Richmond, BC. There’s usually a crowd of fishers on a lower, floating section. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Baker, in Washington State. This was not a clear day. This is still a working area for commercial fishers, though the last processing plant here closed decades ago. Tsawwassen Mills mall, on Tsawwassen First Nation land in Delta, includes lots of indigenous art. The mall is one of three in BC owned by a Chinese property developer, who also holds real estate in Asia. My first thought was this was some sort of modern variation on a totem pole. One of the odder things I missed when moving to Ontario and then Nova Scotia was the relative absence of totem poles. Learn something new every day. Not sure if…
