For my final Patreon post of August I am looking at something a bit different, a short story. Whilst the title implies it was written by, crime writer and poet, Nicholas Blake, it was in fact written by J. Maclaren-Ross, whose intention in writing the tale was to parody Blake. It was published in Punch magazine. and I am aware of two other crime fiction parodies by this author, ‘Maigret in Oxford’ and ‘So Long, My Buddy’. Thanks must go to blog reader Jamie who put me on to this short story. To Jamie’s knowledge ‘A Practised Deceiver’ has not been reprinted.
