Prof. Stoned recently unleashed a fairly massive, absolutely crucial overhaul of the band’s BBC sessions from 1964 through 1972. Most of these recordings have been available on various comps or piecemeal on boxed sets, but as usual, the Professor has dug up the best available sources, cleaned up shoddy recordings, and worked his usual magic. Thank you, Professor! And hey, he’s even unearthed some things even most of the most die-hard Kinks maniacs have never heard: “Let’s Take Off Our Clothes” and “Darling, I Respect You,” two long-lost late 1960s songs that Ray Davies wrote for BBC Two TV’s “Where Was The Spring,” a short-lived sketch comedy series starring John Fortune and Eleanor Bron. We spent so much time dreaming about both of these tunes! And hey, they’re both pretty damn good. Sort of seems like Ray was incapable of writing an actually bad song during this period.…
