Interview / Little Annie / On-U Sound

Little Annie Bandez began performing in New York, in the late 70s when she was still in her early teens. Taking to the stage at venues like Max’s Kansas City, both solo, and in the band Annie & The Asexuals. Her circle included artists such as Lydia Lunch and Alan Vega. In 1980, a chance meeting Steve Ignorant of anarchist collective Crass resulted in Annie relocating to the UK, joining the group and living communally at their legendary squat, Dial House. Through working with Crass, Annie met all sorts of musical folk, from all sorts of musical genres – such as Coil, Current 93, Soft Cell, and Adrian Sherwood and Kishi Yamamoto of radial reggae / dub label On-U Sound. A regular contributor to On-U’s often all-night studio sessions, Annie eventually relocated again and took up residency in Sherwood and Yamamoto’s garden shed.
