After 2 years of waiting, I had an autism assessment this month1. This morning, I received the diagnosis letter. I don’t really know how to feel about it. In the moment I’m okay. I’m happy that I finally know, but in the coming days I’ll probably feel completely out of it. There’s a lot I’ll have to come to terms with now I know I’m autistic. I think I’ll do a big writeup about it in the future, it’ll take a while before I properly make heads or tails out of it – if it’s actually possible to do so. What kicked this all off were lifelong feelings of alienation from those around me, along with the growing threat that the demands of life were outpacing my ability to meet them. Hopefully this diagnosis can help me deal with it all. Either way, I’m glad I finally have an answer. 🫂 I hate to say this, but that’s quick for an assessment in the UK, most adults will be waiting for 3+ years depending on the area. I assume I got really lucky with a cancellation. ↩︎
