Somewhere out there right now is a corner of the internet vowing to keep their PS5s dark indefinitely, GTA VI included, until Sony reverses course on killing physical discs. I admire it. I do. It's the correct instinct pointed at the correct target — I spent a whole post making the case that the disc cutoff is the last exit ramp off Sony's server closing. Somebody organizing around that instead of just grumbling in a comment section deserves credit. I just don't think it works, and I don't think it's close. When I covered the disc announcement back in July, I quoted Sony's own CFO on the subject, and it's worth sitting with again: Lin Tao told investors the company wasn't seeing any impact on the business from the backlash.
