Kilroy’s is a bar. You’ll find it in Indy’s Broad Ripple neighborhood. The first one opened in Bloomington in 1975 to cater to the IU crowd, and it’s still going strong. They have two locations in Bloomington now, plus one in Indy’s Downtown, and this one. I have nothing against Kilroy’s specifically. It’s just that it’s aggressively a bar aimed at twentysomethings and I’m fiftysomething. Places like this hold no charm for me. At the same time, when you just need a cheeseburger and a beer, Kilroy’s works. This part of Broad Ripple is full of places much like Kilroy’s. It wasn’t that way when I moved here in 1994. I remember art galleries and shops and nice restaurants — and bars, but ones that didn’t cater so heavily to a young crowd. It was a nice place to spend an evening just walking and window…
