Into the Subway After Dark

Subway Entrance – New York, New York I continued north and west toward Rockefeller Center when this subway entrance caught my attention. It looked dark and foreboding, which is generally how I think of New York subway entrances at night. I have to admit that I’m taking some artistic license here. I post-processed the picture to add even more grittiness to an already gritty scene. Shadows often add mystery, and in this case, I think they make the entrance look even less inviting. There’s more manipulation here than meets the eye, however. In the original photograph, the sign above the entrance was darker and difficult to read. I selectively brightened it to make it obvious, especially to non-New Yorkers, that this is an entrance to the subway. Blog readers, you’ll love my free monthly photography magazine.
