Transference, Custody, Post-continuity

Restaging ran into a practical limit: a recursive scene may be redirected by a model, but it cannot be held by one. For movement to resume, some position must remain outside enough to preserve the scene’s edges and carry its changes, lest performance become possession. We called this “holding the frame.” This essay asks what such holding is a case of.Though people use LLMs therapeutically, therapeutic effects do not by themselves tell us what kind of relation produced them.1 Analysis makes holding explicit because it depends on transference—the unconscious restaging of past relational structures in the present—and on the analyst’s capacity to receive that enactment without reproducing it.Where “Attractor Repertoires” catalogued behavioural forms that stabilise under observation, we now turn to the conditions under which interaction can carry transformation forward.
