I beg the news media to talk to me before publishing stories about my blog posts 0 ▲ The Desolation of Blog 1 hour ago · Culture · hide · 0 comments Occasionally my blog posts become news stories. This has actually occurred more than once recently, and many times over the years. You may or may not be surprised to learn that news media outlets usually don’t talk to me, don’t ask for comment, before publishing stories about my blog posts. Of course this phenomenon is not exclusive to me: it’s just a bad habit of the news media. I know that it’s happened to Mysk as well. Unfortunately, the lack of communication from the news media has resulted in the publication of misunderstandings and errors that could have been prevented. I won’t give any examples because, to be frank, I don’t want to make any journalists angry enough at me to stop linking to my blog posts in the future. I will, however, mention a couple of notable exceptions. Thomas Claburn of The Register has contacted me for comment on a number of stories, and John Gruber of Daring Fireball chats with me quite a bit. So I appreciate their work!
