Monday Notes: How Studying to Be a Yoga Teacher Helped Me Understand Non-Attachment 0 ▲ K E Garland 2 hours ago · 5 min read1013 words · Life · hide · 0 comments MY ACADEMIC BACKGROUND (which you can skip if you already know) Before I share the nonattachment lesson I learned while in yoga teacher training (YTT), let me re-cap a few things for those of you who have not been reading this blog for over a decade. I went to special schools in Chicago for academically gifted children from first through 11th grade. (In the 12th grade, my adoptive father sent me away, so I graduated from a rural high school out of state). I received a BA in four years from a tier-2 university, at a time when they said folks weren’t doing that anymore. I attained an MAT from a private university, while I was pregnant with my first child…like took a final, and then went into labor two days later. I attained a PhD from one of the top public research institutions in the nation. My academic and intellectual identity have been a huge part of me.
