AI is not an engineer

I have been thinking about the effect of AI on how I perceive activities that I previously found enjoyable. Specifically the effect on how I perceive coding. I made the mistake (looking at it in hindsight) of allowing AI to take over my critical thinking when it comes to coding. Like many I found the wonder of AI in that it was able to very quickly write entire programs for me. The downside of this was that I felt no connection to the code whatsoever. The lose of connection meant I actually did not really care about the quality of it and if I would actually use it lateron. This was a new discovery for me, I always pride myself in the code I write and have been able to explain design choices a long time after I wrote it. With AI I find that even after a few minutes you struggle to explain the structure that was created. Structured frameworks like Ruby on Rails lend themself extremely well to the use of AI as it actually requires you to follow a predetermined path to build things.…
