Did they opt for that change because the word ghetto might have different associations in modern day US English than in mainland Europe? I wonder. This is a graphic novel about the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising meant for younger readers. There's no text balloon dialogue or anything like that. There are pages of illustrations and pages with text (parts novel-like and parts poetry-like) and the two add to each other. The art is gloomy and fits the setting well. I like that it's a story about resistance and about its cost. It shows that there's meaning in organizing and fighting back, even if there's only a very small chance (or even no chance) of success. The language is simple and short. I wasn't too fond of it, but it's not meant for me. I think it's easily accessible for a younger audience. It's clear and… No comments yet.
