where do you see yourself in 1 hour?

interviewers love asking, “where do you see yourself in five years?” but maybe a better question would be: where do you see yourself in one hour, after this interview is over? you shouldn’t have to force yourself to define or restrict your future self. you don’t know what the future holds. you might end up somewhere beyond your wildest dreams, or somewhere completely different that simply makes you happy. five years is a long time. you will change, your priorities will change, and you might want completely different things from life. so instead of asking someone to predict who they’ll become five years from now, just ask where they see themselves in one hour. you might actually get a much better sense of who that person is.
