Today I thought I’d really like to share with you a piece by a harpist whose music I’ve only recently discovered, but whose work I find very interesting. I’ve said it several times here before that I love to hear the harp in more experimental, unobvious settings, and this is precisely what this Netherlands-based Italian artist does on her album “Harposphera”. Every sound on it, including the percussive elements, is produced from the harp, even though it doesn’t necessarily immediately sound like it when you listen without knowing. To achieve this, she used prepared harp techniques (this is when you weave foreign objects into the strings to alter the sound quality), multi-effects guitar pedals and other electronic effects. The end result sounds very captivating. “Harposphera” is a concept album of sorts – the theme of the record is the cosmos; it takes the listener on a journey through galaxies, stars and nebulae.
