Nicely twisty – it’s not what you think about pretty much everything in this book, there’s really only two main characters who stay consistently, so even if you spot one of the twists coming don’t worry, there will be others that are still on their way! Sadly the story has an undercurrent of genuine nastiness – it may well be true to life especially with the interference that we see fomented today but to be honest I read a lot of fiction for escapism and this brings the real world a little too close for me. The story itself starts with a rather nasty murder and gets quite dark in places. It is told from multiple points of view and jumps around in time as well but is well structured enough to follow easily. I don’t think that the inclusion of the murder victim’s point of view really worked – we already have almost everything that was covered and it just felt a little Jamie was very much past tense for all concerned and introducing his POV only once and midway through didn’t really work…
