Archiving my posts from toot.community 0 ▲ Axel Leroy 2 hours ago · Tech · hide · 0 comments On July 28th, Jorijn Schrijvershof announced the incoming closure of toot.community after burning out from dealing with spam, moderation and technical issues. It is perfectly understandable, and I am thankful for the three years I spent on his instance. The fediverse being this wonderful and decentralized ecosystem, I deployed my own GoToSocial instance and moved to it. Even though my followers followed me to the new instance, my posts did not and, without any intervention, will disappear forever. With this in mind, I requested an archive of my posts and started thinking on how to not only preserve them, but also share them. Now, this archive is intended for machines to read, not humans: it has to be transformed into a human-readable format first. I set my mind to find a simple tool that could generate a single HTML file out of the archive; but most solutions were either too old to support newer Mastodon features (such as quotes and polls) or were over-complicated beasts.
