Things I Watched the Week of 2026.08.02

Movies Fiume o Morte! (2025) A beautiful and elaborate reflective documentary about the Italian poet and proto-facist Gabriele D’Annunzio. Wes Andersonian in some ways, meta with the recreation and lovely color, editing, and music/sound design. Secret Mall Apartment (2024) I’ve been thinking more about the kind of artistic practice I want to have in my life, so this came to me at the perfect time since there’s a lot of reflection around life as art and art as life. By Design (2025) An absurd, surreal, theatric feature about a woman who becomes a chair and realizes that people like her more that way. A lot of feminist themes about being seen/heard, objectification, wealth/class, friendship, family, sex, and being desired. Made me think of My Year of Rest and Relaxation in some ways strangely enough Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026) A very good Spider-Man movie!
