Book review for Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb. I rated it 4 stars This is a fantasy book that sprawls across the storylines of multiple characters. One of the main characters is Althea Vestrit, a young 18-year old daughter of the Vestrit family who hopes to one day command her family's Liveship. A ship made with wizardwood, it is the only class of ship that is able to navigate the dangerous waters of the Rain Wilds. For families who can afford to own one, it's a very valuable investment indeed. After 3 generations of ownership, the ship will also become sentient (literally a "live" ship) and so it is a very costly but worthwhile investment for Trader families - who take out huge loans to buy one, and then attempt to pay them back over the multiple generations. The Vestrit family are having financial difficulties paying back this loan, and one of the sons-in-law, Kyle Haven, attempts to regain financial stability with his own dodgy trading tactics without much success.
