She also has a searingly beautiful way with words. Nyadol Nyuon, National Press Club of Australia Her name is Nyadol Nyuon. She is Sudanese migrant, a lawyer and fierce advocate, who fled war and refugee camps, who won’t back down calling for a just Australia. She has in anger at the systemic racism she’s seen in some Australian institutions said she will renounce her Australian citizenship. I hope Australians will never let her do that. At least I hope we will desperately plead for her to reconsider. Nyadol is a gift we don’t deserve. She has faced abuse and death threats for speaking her truth. And it must take its toll. Yet she continues, because there must be something within her that hopes for a better tomorrow. That still believes that Australians can rise above division and fear.
