This photograph of the Hankins family was likely taken in about 1898-1899, based on how old my grandfather, Francis William Hankins, looks in the photo. The identifications are typed on a piece of paper and taped to the back. My mother tended to do this style of labeling, so I suspect she provided the identifications decades after the photo was taken. Looking at other photos, identified by other people, I believe the identifications are correct. There is nothing visible on the mat board to indicate where the photo was taken, or who the photographer was. If the photo does date from 1898 or so, then it may have been taken in Auburn, Cayuga County, New York were both Howard Ross Hankins and William Lucas Hankins were living. Lucas Wurtz Hankins is seated on the left. Lucas, the son of John Hankins (1803-1847) and Susan Thomas (1811-1885), was born on 31 October 1831 at Ten Mile River, Sullivan County, New York.
