There is one rule in astrophotography that I know perfectly well: don't use an important, unrepeatable event to learn how your new equipment works. On August 12, I ignored it. We had just returned from vacation that same day. The car needed to be unpacked, things had to be put away, and somewhere in between all of that there was a solar eclipse approaching. Not a total one from here in Germany, unfortunately, but a rather impressive partial eclipse nevertheless. And I had a new toy. A few days earlier...
