At work I was called nice and I know it was meant as a compliment, but... Early in the season at work (if you don't know, I work for an intentionally unnamed sports team) a team lead of mine said I was "nice" and I knew it was a compliment but I hate being called nice. To me, a nice person is someone who will be remembered at their funeral as always putting others before themselves, never putting demands on other people, avoiding conflict at all costs, erasing their personality to suit others, allowing themselves to be taken advantage of without complaint. It's basically the pinnacle of womanhood and I have worked pretty hard not to be those things. I don't mind being called kind, considerate, or polite. I believe being pro-social is beneficial to moving through society and I am not immune to cultural brainwashing. But I very firmly do not want to be like the "nice" people I have seen throughout my life who overwork themselves thanklessly, never complain about terrible treatment,…
