Driving on Frontage Roads Yesterday I set out to meet Earl up at Jamie’s apartment in Chandler. Jamie is out of town and we decided to use his apartment for the night to have a little change of scenery for the weekend. Earl had driven up on Friday; the joy of having two vehicles again is apparent with me being able to jump in the Jeep to go meet him somewhere. Being in the desert, the road network connecting Tucson to Phoenix is fairly sparse. I-10 is the most direct way, and that is often fairly crowded with folks with the same sort of intentions. There’s also a bunch of construction north of Casa Grande where they’re widening the freeway. I’m not a freeway kind of guy these days. Back roads include going north of Oro Valley along Oracle Rd. to SR 79, which was formerly US Route 80. I’ve taken that route many times and it’s a wonderful drive that goes through Florence and makes its way up to US Route 60. I’ve done that drive a lot.
