On this page I recently read Jacques Corby-Tuech's post on what Apple and Google are doing to your push notifications. The piece is written from the perspective of marketing and how the changes impact their industry. So we get an interesting look at how the sausage is made: Push exists to bring users back into the product; once they're there, the owned surfaces take over. Corby-Tuech focuses on how the new AI based notifications on Android and iOS are impacting advertising channels. I didn't realize how much push notifications had changed in the last year, because I've been using GrapheneOS for a little over a year now and do not have access to the Smart Notifications that rolled out on Pixels.
