Her formulation is, typically for Lorelai, absurd: recover on Saturday so you can achieve maximum resting efficiency on Sunday. But she has the direction right. We often rest from work. We spend ourselves all week, collapse over the weekend, and recover just enough by Sunday night to begin again. Rest, in this mode, is mere maintenance for the productivity machine. I believe this pattern is backwards. We should, instead, work from rest. Rather than work being the center of our lives and rest preparing us for more work, we ought to put rest first and carry its strength into our work.
