July 2026 NOTE: Published in error. This post was not meant to be published yet but left as a draft. I accidently published it and then reverted to a draft but some people did read it and leave comments so I’ve re-instated it for now but I am not planning on publishing the rest of the walks of this trip until I have finished writing up my walks on the mainland. ——————- Having completed the coast of mainland Britain (and most of the islands of England and Wales) I am now turning my attention to the very many islands of Scotland. Last year I walked around the Isle of Arran. Keeping vaguely alphabetical, the next island on the agenda is Barra, in the Outer Hebrides (also known as the Western Isles). Barra is joined to the smaller island of Vatersay by a causeway, opened in 1991, and Vatersay is the southern most inhabited island of the chain of islands known as the Outer Hebridies (also known as the Western Isles).
