August 2026 Throwbacks

Looking back 15, 10 and 5 years… August 2011 did not see much camera use from me, but I did get out for a leg stretcher in the Santa Fe mountains to see the aftermath of the Pacheco Fire. Perhaps this one’s apropos as the slopes further down are currently burning in the Frijoles Fire. Living in the pyrocene is no picnic, but it does help to remember previous burns and recall that they do recover. August 2016 gave me a wonderful trip to wonderful mountains in eastern Nevada with the good company of Greg Russell. August 2021 was hot and smoky (August just isn’t a great month these days), but I had a fantastic time making abstract images of fancy dancers at the Chief Lookingglass Powwow in Kamiah, Idaho. The image included here is a new one that I hadn’t processed previously. And this is as good an opportunity as any to share a sleeper from one year ago, a black and white from our hot August backpack in the Wallowas:
