Every now and again I write my partner an email in the middle of the tonight and schedule-send it so it arrives in her inbox just as she's having her coffee. They're always really calm, gentle, and occasionally very swoony emails, but they're not overly dramatic declarations of love and devotion; I show that when I clean out the fridge. Writing stuff for each other and with each other is something that permeates our thing. As I've written about before (see here and here), we regularly write down random weird ideas, concepts, names, or turns of phrase we come up with (oh, and insane or otherwise noteworthy things we overhear). I tell people this has to do with my tendency towards archiving things, but it's really about my once powerful memory starting to show signs of aging.
