My diagnosis story was crazy. I was misdiagnosed as a type 2 and, consequently, the treatments did nothing for me. I was walking 4+ miles a day on the treadmill just to bring my A1C down from ~10.5 to ~8.9 over a year and a half. There was so much shame and fear associated with being a type 2 diabetic. And there was also extreme stigma. Even from my type 2 family members.The craziest thing to me was when my diagnosis was corrected. It went from doctors, family members, and the general public being disgusted with me to so many folks being sympathetic – even doting over me. It was a night and day difference.It's made me very sensitive towards the cavalier "poor diet and exercise" description of type 2 diabetics. The idea that all T2's are to blame for their condition?
