I remember how it all started.Adding friends as connections on a new social network felt great in a disconnected world. Getting life updates and photos and posting your thoughts in a feed where you knew everyone felt fresh, and it felt real.However, the more content I see on Meta’s platforms now, Instagram and Threads, the more uncomfortable I feel.Something broke, snapped, when the gates of feeds once limited to friends suddenly opened wide to the whole world. The algorithmic feed and the public square turned some of us into exhibitionists, ready to post everything about our lives online and air all our dirty laundry for everyone to see.
