After a brutal week of travel, I’m feeling quite behind in everything: reading, writing, deadlines, the start of the semester, and recharging my batteries before a hectic fall. The late summer bustle, set against a fatigue-tinted doldrums, feels like as good a time as any for a three things Thursday. Thing the First I’ve just started taking photographs with my film cameras again after a 20 year hiatus. I’ll share a few more photographs tomorrow before I return to my regular quick hits and varia routine. I’ve thought a good bit about the mechanics of photography lately. I’m not a good photographer (by any definition), but I enjoy it and think about it. As a result, my observations here are anchored less in expertise and more in practice (and enjoyment). I find that taking film photos forces me to pre-visualize my pictures in a way that digital does not.
