A new tool for keeping track of your film shots: Frames

I’m trying something new. Every so often a software developer reaches out to tell me about a new app they’ve built for film photographers. They’re invariably a film photographer themselves, and they built an app they wanted for themselves. So far none of these apps have entered my workflows — they’ve been fine apps, just not ones that solve problems I have. But I like the idea of putting good work from our community in front of you, because you might find it valuable. First up is an app called Frames, built by Vincent. He’s been a product designer for over a decade, and photography has been right there with him the whole time. When he got back into shooting film, he ran into the problem plenty of us know well: by the time the negatives come back from the lab, the details are gone. Which lens was that? What filter, what aperture, what was I even trying to do with that shot? He tried notebooks and note-taking apps, but none of them were built for how film photographers actually work. So…
