Solar Eclipse 0 ▲ Cotswold Diary 2 hours ago · Art · hide · 0 comments I saw the total eclipse in 1999 down at Lake Balaton in Hungary. Today was the closest we had in the UK since then, and we had about 93% totality in Gloucestershire. Went up to Uley Bury to view it. I had a home made eclipse viewer, as well as a kitchen colander. It was an extremely warm evening and there were a lot of people sitting on the bury edge waiting for 7.15pm. At the peak time, the light definitely dimmed for a minute or two, but nowhere near darkness. My homemade equipment wasn’t very good really, but someone up there let me look through his glasses which was very impressive – just a sliver of sun showing. My whatsapp groups were full of pictures after. It seems that there was traffic congestion at all the main grassland hills around Stroud, so definitely picked the right place to view.
