Why can’t we have nice things? Like, specifically?

The world doesn’t need another op-ed on how building things is illegal in San Francisco. But it does need more specifics on exactly how that plays out (this is the same instinct that led me to interview my Dad about Bell Labs). What, specifically, does it look like to try to build in SF? Where, specifically, do people fail? Explaining specifics turned out to be difficult, for the same reason I would struggle to write the specifics of my failure to nail jello to a wall in the dark. So much of the information is hidden, and even what’s visible elides description. But I’ll do my best.
