2026 Anniversary Series 076: Anata – The Conductor’s Departure

Scribed by Sandre the Giant Released: 19th June 2006 I had recently read an article on Loudwire about bands who had peaked on their last records, and was pleasantly surprised to find Swedish technical death metal legends Anata on there, and their 2006 classic ‘The Conductor’s Departure’, an album I hold very dear. I was my first experience with them, and I have since gone back to collect the full set but this is still their peak, an album of technical death metal at its absolute apex of thrilling intricacy and ball busting heaviness. Twenty years have gone past, and we’ve never seen another release from the band, so we need to get right into this album and try and figure out the minutest of details to understand why they were so good, and why not enough people talk about them?!
