538. Aberffraw to Valley

July 2014 For most of my walks on Anglesey I’d had wonderful weather. Today was an exception. Grey with some drizzle though I guess it wasn’t too bad, I had just been spoiled on previous walks. I actually did this walk a couple of days before the Trearddur Bay to Valley walk. I was staying at the Blackthorn farm campsite near Holyhead, so I drove the short distance to Valley. From here I took an infrequent bus down to Aberffraw so that I could walk back to my car without the worry of missing the bus. Aberffraw is near the start of a small estuary of the river Ffraw. The map shows a large dune system on the other side of the river, but from here it looks like mostly grass. The path is narrow and the drizzle means the long grass beside it is sodden so my feet are soon wet. At least that means I don’t need to worry about trying to keep them dry, I suppose! The path is a thin tarmac strip along the top of a narrow wall, presumably built to protect the village behind. The river beside me…
