Comments on blogs

When Olly announced that he had launched the comments feature on Pagecord, I took it in stride. “Okay. Just another standard blog feature.” But over time, I started commenting on other bloggers’ posts, and they replied to my comments. A pleasant atmosphere of conversation and exchange of views developed.I experienced something similar on Mastodon when I first started using it. It was a refreshing change from what I’d encountered on Twitter in the past.I’m still having these pleasant, casual conversations on Mastodon all the time. But it’s a digital platform. A social medium. A bit like a marketplace where people are shouting over one another (but the important thing is that they’re shouting to someone, not at someone).And what about comments on Pagecord? They add a bit of privacy to these conversations. How so? A personal blog isn’t like a downtown market where everyone is walking around and speaking loudly.
