Traveling Tuesday: The Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota

On my drive from Wilmington, Delaware to Ft. Myers, Florida, I took a quick break at the Ringling Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida to check out their newly reinstalled Cyprus gallery which was the work of our sometime collaborator from Polis, Joanna Smith.I had never been to this museum and honestly wasn’t prepared for the scale. It was also a free day which meant that the museum was crowded with people: families, seniors, and some slightly confused middle aged dudes like me. I shot mostly with my dad’s Nikon D600 which I’m coming to appreciate more and more as I get familiar with its menus and controls. There is something crazy dynamic about the colors coming out of the camera. This is the main entrance to the u-shaped museum building with a replica of Michelangelos’s David as the focal point of a formal garden. I don’t know how many times people have taken this exact photo, but I felt like the electrons knew what I was doing before I even lifted the camera. There are two statues…
